We’ve heard of pop-up shops but a pop-up piano? Thanks to the non-profit organization Sing for Hope, the sound of music will fill the streets from uptown to downtown and everywhere in between. This public art initiative features 88 public pianos (representative of the number of keys) that have been decorated by fashion and art world stars and placed throughout the five boroughs until July 2nd.
Diane’s Steinway & Sons Baby Grand has been decked out in her signature chain link print and “Love is Life”mantra. It is appropriately stationed at Lincoln Center’s Hearst Plaza, where she holds her bi-annual ready-to-wear fashion shows.
Of the 88 pianos, 10 of them – including Diane’s – are available for bidding through July 14th on CharityBuzz.com. The money raised during the auction will benefit Sing for Hope’s vision that all New Yorkers should have access to the arts. The volunteer program brings the arts to under-resourced communities.
