Journey of a Dress: Aimee Song

June 25, 2014

Diane often says “Design your life,” and Aimee Song of Song of Style is a woman who knows how to do just that. Interior designer slash fashion blogger, she is taking the world by storm with her effortless and oh-so-covetable style. Here she dishes on her very own Journey of a Dress (Marrakech, anyone?), as the wrap continues to make its way around the globe.

Tell us more about your Journey of a Dress:

I took my Chain Link wrap dress to Morocco, where I was looking for inspiration for the projects I’m working on. From the beach town called Essaouira to the medina in Marrakech, I explored the beautiful cities of Morocco.

What is your favorite memory of the wrap dress:

My fondest memory of DVF’s iconic wrap dress is from my old boss at the first architecture firm I worked for. Being an architect and working in a field dominated by men, her wardrobe consisted a lot of classic pieces from trench coats to slacks to different color ways (usually in solid colors) of DVF’s wrap dresses and her favorite style of shoes, classic black loafers. She was the epitome of a confident female boss who was feminine but could still hang with the boys.

How would you describe your personal style?

My style is a combination of my travels and my Californian roots. It is quite easy going and effortless, but still very polished.

What does the wrap dress mean to you?

To me, the wrap dress represents a strong female who isn’t afraid to be herself. The wrap dress can be worn in so many different ways and is a chameleon itself, just like all of us. We can be strong, confident, feminine, a boss, a lover, and many other things, and the wrap dress is an extension of that.

What is your must-have item this season?

Bright whites are my favorite this season. From a sheer white shirt, to a pretty white lace dress you can wear from day to night, to wide legged trousers, I’m really loving white.

Diane loves mantras. Do you have any words that you live by?

“Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.” - H. Jackson Brown Jr.
