“In the fashion industry we looove Instagram,” Diane declared last night. And the proof was in a stream of filtered square photos as the CFDA celebrated Instagram founder Kevin Systrom with an evening of cocktails and conversation. Diane hosted, welcoming the fashion pack to her Studio, where Systrom and his team were the first to arrive. Champagne, bourbon cocktails and freshly baked artichoke puffs fueled the fun as DVF collaborator and friend Philip Crangi strolled in with Suno’s Erin Beatty, and Calvin Klein’s ever-dapper Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli showed no signs of the blustery weather outside.
Amidst Diane’s beloved orchids and artwork, Diane’s Google Hangout cohost Eva Chen, WWD’s Ed Nardoza, CFDA’s Steven Kolb, Rodarte’s Kate Mulleavy and model Karlie Kloss—looking so DVF in a one-of-a-kind dress from our Oasis collection—chatted with the Instagram team. Diane told the crowd, “I did Studio 54 and brought Google Glass on the runway, so I stretch both worlds! Kevin, I am so impressed with what you’ve done. I use it, my children, my grandchildren. It’s a part of our lives,” she said, before wishing the app a very happy 3rd birthday. “We are incredibly humbled that you came out,” Kevin replied, joking about his anxiety when dressing for the party. “Instagram is so much about community for us,” the company’s Director of Business Operations Emily White added. “So we’re glad to bring you all into this community.”
And with that, happy conversation and the sound of clinking glasses filled the room again, providing a warm welcome for Instagram favorite and industry great Oscar de la Renta to join the crowd–a truly fashionable birthday treat!
