Fall 2014: Bohemian Wrapsody

February 10, 2014

Against the skyline of the city where Diane’s American dream came true, the Fall 2014 “Bohemian Wrapsody” collection came dancing down the runway on Sunday. Inspired by the colors, movement and free spirit of the Ballet Russes, the collection was unveiled before a star-studded audience in a downtown studio transformed with prints and colors. From Anna Wintour, Olivia Palermo, Katherine Schwarzenegger, AnnaSophia Robb and Bella Thorne to Leandra Medine, Harley Viera-Newton, Mira Duma and Michelle Harper, the discerning front row was in for a treat. As the lights went down, the inimitable St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) emerged to serenade the crowd.

From the first look, the models radiated a chic nonchalance in wrap dresses, tunics and tops, floating floral chiffon and handbags in printed pony and fur. There were swinging maxi skirts, printed cocoon coats, touches of sheer silk and lace and a palate of jewel tones and fresh pinks.

And then, like a bouquet on offer, the models reemerged, to the tune of St. Vincent’s hit “Digital Witness,” in a dazzling parade of gold mini wraps. Karlie Kloss, Karen Elson and Joan Smalls couldn’t help but dance down the runway, and the whole cast joined St. Vincent to cheer and dance onstage with Diane. Then a burst of golden glitter rained down on an audience that looked ready to stand up and join in on the fun.

And the celebration wasn’t over yet! Outside, a sparkle of snow was drifting down onto the city as the party relocated to DVF’s Meatpacking Studio. Back at “home” Emily Weiss of Into the Gloss and Chiara Ferragni of the Blonde Salad mingled with Gia Coppola, Dylan Penn, Derek Blasberg, Lily Kwong and the rapper Wale. Guests were treated to dinner, champagne, and another great soundtrack, this time from DJ Lolawolf–the always cool, always bohemian Zoe Kravitz.

Start to finish, it was a moveable feast of fashion and a fitting tribute to the dress that started it all.
