I wanted to take my dress to get to know a bit of Olinda, a beautiful and historic city that breathes art and is famous for its colorful houses! A fun afternoon, walking around…

How would you describe your personal style?
My style is super pop. I love discovering new trends and adapting them to my style and having fun with the new fashion every season! Also, love to create hi-lo looks, mixing high fashion brands with pieces bought in thrift shops.

What does the wrap dress mean to you?
Besides being the dress with the best sculpting that I’ve felt in my life, the wrap provides a powerful “thing,” you know? It brings a bit of Diane’s personality in it… I feel very confident when I wear it!

Diane loves mantras. Do you have any words that you live by?
“It is nice to be important, but is more important do be nice!”

Galeries Lafayette

Speaking of Paris, Diane is there now celebrating the launch of the Galeries Lafayette Fall “Pop’timisme” Campaign which highlights the 40th Anniversary of the wrap dress. In addition to literally painting the town in print—all along Boulevard Haussman, to be exact—Diane has joined forces with the French powerhouse to design a window featuring her favorite friends and icons. From an Alex Katz portrait of Anna Wintour to Sarah Jessica Parker as captured by Jem Mitchell, there is plenty to captivate. Like this Takashi Murakami of Diane flanked by Natalia Vodianova by François-Marie Banier and Hung Huang by Lin Xi.
If you make it past the windows, there’s a special in-store display featuring a timeline that charts the Journey of a Dress, not to mention a capsule collection of twelve iconic wrap dresses in six heritage prints, including a limited edition Amelia and 440 Mini exclusively for Galeries Lafayette. Now that’s something to celebrate.

Diane celebrates the 40th anniversary of her wrap dress this year. I’m so happy she invited me to Los Angeles to the Journey of a Dress exhibition. I wore the China wrap dress on the night. I love the dress. It is unique. It is a combination of the famous wrap and the Chinese QiPao. It is beautiful. Even my husband who always complains I have too many dresses said, “You are so beautiful in this dress. I will buy you a wrap dress!”

How would you describe your personal style?
I like to dress in simple silhouette with a pop of color or pattern. Accessories are very important.

What does the wrap dress mean to you?
The wrap dress represents the confidence, freedom and independence of women. When I wear a wrap dress, I feel confident and sexy.

What is your must have item this season?
The Jewel wrap dress. I like the floral print of the dress. It has a China touch. The print is so beautiful and pops up from the black.  I will wear it at daytime, and also for parties!

Do you have any words that you live by?
Love. Like what Diane said, “Love is life!” Love is my motto. If there is love in life, nothing is a barrier.

Journey of a Dress:
Chriselle Lim

We’ve been sending the wrap dress around the world, and Chriselle Lim is here to share how she styles her classic chain link wrap to be at home in any landscape, from California to Korea. Read on to learn why the wrap means so much to this stylist extraordinaire.

Tell us your journey of a dress wrap story.
There are certain moments in life that mark a girl’s womanhood. For me, those moments include, to name a few: the passing of my driver’s license test, my first paycheck, moving to LA for college, and of course there was my very first wrap dress. I recall landing my first part-time internship in college, and I was incredibly excited and nervous at the same time. The day before I started my internship I received a package from my parents, and to my surprise there was a gorgeous blue DVF wrap dress inside. I immediately tried on the dress and I will never forget that moment—I felt like a woman. This dress acted as my armor of confidence and strength when I was extremely nervous and self-conscious.

How would you describe your personal style?
I like to describe my style as a juxtaposed balance of feminine and masculine. Think a sophisticated and feminine wrap dress paired with a slightly oversized men’s blazer and black booties.

What does the wrap dress mean to you?
The wrap dress to me is far more than just a dress; it has never failed to make me feel a certain way—beautiful, confident and sexy! It embodies everything a woman should be.

What is your must-have item this season?
A light purse is a must, and I’m currently obsessing over the 440 Mini Leather Crossbody Bag in Vachetta.

Diane loves mantras. Do you have any words that you live by?
My business partner sent me a quote after I got sick from overworking and it changed my life. The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered, “Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future. He lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.” This quote helped me put things into perspective and reminded me to always live in the present!
