From London With Love

Dear readers: I write to you from London where I have come to understand that Diane—quite apart from being the woman we all want to be—is making the rest of us look like sloths. Arriving in London on Tuesday to accept the (what else?) Fashion Icon Award at Harper’s Bazaar’s Woman of the Year Awards from the seriously dainty Victoria Beckham, she told the room full of impossibly cool women including Tracey Emin, Debbie Harry, Carey Mulligan, DVF muse Elisa Sednaoui, Margot Robbie and Serpentine Gallery director Julia Peyton-Jones that, “Victoria is one of the most serious women I know.” Diane continued by saying that her award was truly for those voiceless women whose daily heroism goes unrecognized by the world. Next up—following a slew of book signings—a stop at the marvelous, George Condo embellished Arts Club to discuss the subject of her memoirs—love and work, as Sigmund Freud once said—with Tim Blanks, who probed deeply but not indiscreetly. The audience of women (and not a few men) were dazzled, inspired and amused.

But the whistle stop tour did not end here. With seemingly endless reserves, Diane continued unabated into the next day where a new crowd assembled in the scholarly wing of the Victoria & Albert museum to inhale snippets of Diane’s wisdom gathered from a life thoroughly lived. Charging the stage with books in hand, hundreds of young women seem not to have gotten enough: just one last bit of advice from the doyenne, please.

As the year celebrating the wrap dress ends, the Journey of the Dress made its final pitstop at Phillips auction house later that evening. A miniature phalanx of the wrap army made its way across the pond and assembled on a stage surrounded by portraits of Diane through the ages. To celebrate their arrival nine of London’s loveliest it girls had their portraits taken in a host of wraps past to present and reappeared in person to join Diane and the triumphant little dress. Eugenie Niarchos, Olympia of Greece, Noor Fares, Laura Bailey, Paula Goldstein and Valentine Fillol-Cordier scattered themselves around the gallery and just before the evening ended climbed into the hive of wrapped mannequins much to the chagrin of the guards!

The girls and a few others including Bianca Jagger, Suzy Menkes and Jemima Khan disbanded to Matthew Freud’s house for dinner of donuts, burgers and caviar (in that order) and excited chatter about House of DVF: a fitting salute for an extraordinary new chapter of DVF.

Print Perfect:
The Luna Jean

We’ve taken our very first print, the chain link, into casually chic new territory on the Luna jean. The Luna mixes and matches with a few of our other favorites: a touch of animal print, a bit of 440 hardware, and Diane’s personal mantra. Put it all together and you have the perfect weekend look!

California Dreaming:
DVF To Open At The Grove

After several new store openings in California this Fall, we have one left to go—DVF at The Grove will open on December 6th! In anticipation, we have gathered a few hot spots nearby. Stop in to say hi and be sure to check out our favorite places!

Angelini Osteria

A go-to for authentic Italian, Angelini Osteria doesn’t disappoint. It sets the standard for delicious pasta, but don’t forget to try the branzino. Locals say you can’t get a better Italian meal in LA, and you’ll feel right at home.

Erewhon

Known for its unbeatable fresh produce and salad bar, hot foods and sushi, this marketplace is heaven…and a DVF favorite.

LACMA

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is a must. From photographer Larry Sultan’s first retrospective to an exhibition exploring the influence of astronomy on African art, there is always something to entertain the eyes and mind.

Pop Physique

As Diane likes to say, “The most important relationship is the one you have with yourself.” An artistic exercise that invites women to escape from daily chaos and focus on themselves, Pop Physique is all about nurturing that relationship. So go for it.

Clover Street Juice

This perfectly pure, cold-pressed juice bar is conveniently equipped with a walk-up window. Swing by post-stroll through the Pan Pacific Park Rec Center and never drink just any old green juice again.

Joan’s on Third

Joan’s on Third accommodates every gathering you could imagine; from an intimate lunch at the gourmet marketplace and café, to full-service catering for an over the top celebration.

Mercado

You cannot visit Southern California without trying local Mexican. Mercado has a versatile atmosphere for intimate dinner dates or a night out with the ladies. And we hear the grapefruit margaritas are divine.
