American Idols

June 05, 2012

If there are two things we love at DVF, it’s a good party and American fashion. So when the two collide as brilliantly as they did at last night’s CFDA Awards at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, we get more than a little excited. With the likes of Arizona Muse—who shone on Yvan’s arm in the New Cindy Dress in Puffy Sequins—Jessica Chastain, and Jessica Paré, hitting the requisite red carpet to celebrate Fifty Years of the CFDA, what is not to love?

There was no shortage of fashion friends, with Diane’s travel companion, Prabal Gurung, Tommy Hilfiger, who took home a Lifetime Achievement Award, Donna Karan and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who received Womenswear Designer of the Year. There was also photographer duo Scott Schuman and Garance Doré, who accepted the Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard with the mantra-worthy, “Take your fun very seriously.” We couldn’t agree more.

As the President of CFDA, Diane had all hands on deck and, coincidentally, on her surrealist black and white gown from our Fall Collection.  Following a few sips of champagne and nibbles of edamame hummus, she took to the podium to introduce the evening’s host, Seth Meyers, smiling as she said, “Live from Lincoln Center, it’s Seth Meyers!” Meyers proceeded to charm the crowd with countless quips and one unforgettable wardrobe change when he donned the sheer black lace dress and white boxer combo Marc Jacobs wore to this year’s Met Ball. “That is a long way to go to prove you’re wearing a clean pair of underwear!” he proclaimed before offering said evidence of his own. John Waters also got his share of laughs, accepting awards on behalf of Johnny Depp and Rei Kawakubo.

As the awards show winded down and the after-parties revved up, the DVF candle continued to burn at both ends, with Diane heading to the Monkey Bar to celebrate Tommy Hilfiger, while Yvan made his way to the Boom Boom Room. And still they were up bright and early putting the final touches on our soon to be unveiled Resort Collection!

Diane summed it up best in an early morning email to the studio:

“Great CFDA Awards last night… Seth Meyers and John Waters stole the show !!! Proud of American Fashion ! Love Diane.”
