About Last Night:
Celebrating Spring 17

Editors, friends and fashion week fixtures joined Diane last night as she fêted new Chief Creative Officer Jonathan Saunders and his first collection for DVF, a modern reimagining of print and color that debuted over the weekend in a series of intimate appointments at a bright white space on Little West 12th Street.

Karlie Kloss, Jessica Hart, Leandra Medine, Miroslova Duma, Hamish Bowles, and Allison Williams—who looked ravishing in a pale blue sundress from the Spring 17 collection—exchanged the requisite air kisses in the newly revamped Beatrice Inn.

As the crowd sipped champagne and house Negronis, Jonathan, Diane and CEO Paolo Riva celebrated the momentous weekend; one that marks a clear and promising direction for the future of DVF.

“It’s not just a collection, it’s a concept,” said Diane von Furstenberg, who has officially passed the creative reins to her worthy successor, “and I couldn’t be happier.”

SO DVF:
May

Model Megan Williams lit up the Cannes Film Festival circuit this week in a series of DVF looks. For the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala, where DVF donated a look to the runway-auction, Williams chose a glittering embellished wrap dress, first seen during the DVF Fall 2016 Experience on Karlie Kloss. She finished the look with the Tonda minaudière, a sleek clutch she also carried to the De Grisogono Party. This time she paired it with a vintage Qipao wrap dress for a fresh yet dramatic look.

NYLON’s Young Hollywood Party brought out the brightest (not to mention most powerful) young faces today, from Jaden Smith and Lucky Blue Smith (no relation!) to Justine Skye and Kylie Jenner. Model Ireland Baldwin was on hand, looking one part Old Hollywood, one part new starlet in our graphic DVF Frederica slip dress embellished with sequins and lace. For a fresh take on glamour, she skipped mom Kim Basinger’s blonde curls for pin straight locks – and added an armful of finely drawn tattoos.

The 2016 amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala

“An ode to all-out fierceness” is how Carine Roitfeld has described the runway she curated for the 2016 amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala. Technically it is “The Disco Collection” but either way, it’s no surprise Ms. Roitfeld asked Diane to donate a look for the fashionable fundraiser. Hosted at the eternally glamorous Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, the event is always a highlight of the Cannes film festival circuit, featuring models of the moment in jaw-dropping gowns that are auctioned off for charity. To mix things up a bit, and pay tribute to that 70s theme, we sent a dazzling embellished wrap jumpsuit from our Fall 2016 Collection down the glittering runway on Valery Kaufman. After the show, it was auctioned to raise funds for amfAR’s work to end AIDS.

Manus x Machina:
The Met Ball Sketches

“Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology” is the theme of the 2016 Met Gala and thus, of course, the inspiration for the custom gowns walking the red carpet on Diane and her guests. In creating this year’s looks, we sought inspiration from the 1927 Fritz Land film “Metropolis,” with its themes of man versus machine, and imagery drawing fromm Bauhaus, Cubist and Futuristic design—plus a healthy dose of the film’s glamorous art deco era. Using liquid metallic jersey, each dress embodies the fluidity of the greatest technologies, and the feel of industrial metals, with a unique neckline and embellishment to suit the woman who wears it: dazzling silver for Imaan Hammam, brilliant gold for Dylan Penn, and rich bronze for Riley Keough.

As for Diane… this evening she will debut a galaxy print on an embellished jersey column dress, and a custom headpiece. Read more here about how she gets ready for the party of the year, and check back for photos of the final looks!

Vanessa Hudgens

During Vanessa Hudgens’ whirlwind tour to promote her role as the sassy audience favorite Rizzo in “Grease Live!” we were thrilled to see her looking glamorous and confident in a custom midnight blue DVF Cathy jumpsuit at a panel discussion for the Television Critics Association. Hudgens accessorized with delicate necklaces that showed off the deep v-neck and added just enough sparkle.
The jumpsuit is currently on sale in black at DVF.com and in a navy print at Net-A-Porter.
